Q: What does an Independent Agent at Network F.O.B. do?
A: Our Independent Agents broker freight for businesses throughout the U.S. and Canada. On a day-to-day basis, they rate loads, dispatch, cultivate new business, follow-up with current and prospective clients, track loads, and resolve any problems that arise. Because they generate their own book of business, a strong entrepreneurial personality, solid work ethic, transportation background, and excellent communication skills are essential to success.
Q: If I want to be an independent freight broker, why should I work as an Independent Agent with Network F.O.B. rather than on my own?
A: Working entirely on your own can mean thousands of dollars in start-up costs. And unless you hire a support staff, you’ll spend a great deal of time on administration and paperwork on time we think you’d rather spend moving freight and making money. When you work with us you have the support of a full administrative staff, the latest technology in the industry, excellent commission, marketing tools you can use, as well as the support you need to be a success. As a Network Agent you will have a tremendous advantage in securing carriers, because of our great reputation and excellent credit history.
Working with us gives you the technology and benefits of our company, with the freedom and earning potential of self-employment.
Q: I have a non-compete agreement with my current employer and am concerned about starting as an Independent Agent at Network F.O.B. with no clients of my own. How can you help?
A: Non-competes are common in this industry, and we know it can be a challenge building a client base from the ground up. When you start as a Network F.O.B. Agent, you can access our databases of thousands of qualified leads to help get started. We also get daily inquiries from new potential clients through our online Rate Quote system, and we distribute those leads among all of our Agents. You also benefit from our training and expertise, decades of proven techniques that work in this industry. If you have specific questions about a non-compete you may have with a current employer, please consult your attorney.
Q: How do I get paid?
A: You can retrieve your commissions any time, day or night 24/7! Simply log on and transfer your funds from our on-line bank to your personal bank account. It ís fast, easy and you get your commissions immediately. We only work with the best Independent Agents in the business and our commission program is one of the most generous in the industry: a 80/20 split.
Q: Can I work from home?
A: Yes. However, most of our Agents find they’re more successful when they set up a small office outside of their home, away from distractions. When they’re in their professional office environment, they can focus more on the job. And they like keeping their professional space and personal space separated.
Q: I’m working as an independent freight broker on my own now. Why would I be better off working with Network?
A: Working with Network F.O.B. virtually eliminates the administrative “back office” costs you have now. Our staff takes care of most of your paperwork for you including billing, receivables, carrier payments, liability insurance and claims, so you have more time to focus on moving freight and making money. We’re also one of the few freight forwarders that accept credit card and check-by-fax payments on behalf of your clients. It’s more convenient for them and lowers credit risk.
You can also take advantage of our “quick pay” program for carriers to help you get trucks for your clients quickly. It helps you better utilize small carriers who need cash. And it establishes your financial creditability, which is typically lacking among other smaller brokers.
If claims arise, we know how to get them settled quickly for you. We also give you unlimited use of the DAT® national accounts program, including DAT Live. You get qualified leads from our databases and our online Rate Quote system, so you spend less time cold calling. And you operate under our umbrella of industry credibility and experience.
Q: Does Network F.O.B. have any fees associated with the commission split?
A: Yes, there is a $25 transaction fee per load.Network has no minimums. Our commission structure remains consistent, regardless of smaller gross profits on smaller loads.

Q: I’m interested in the position, but I don’t have any experience in the transportation industry. How can I get the experience I need?
A: Successful freight brokering is generally NOT something you can learn in a classroom setting.Hands-on experience in the transportation industry is the best way to help prepare you for a successful career as an Independent Agent.
Consider spending a couple years working in the transportation industry in dispatch or customer service. Or work as a freight broker employee with a transportation company. Salary and commissions are generally lower when you’re a full employee, but you’ll get the experience you need to successfully broker freight as an Independent Agent later in your career.
